The core is believed to by made up of an iron-nickel alloy sphere with a radius of 758mi, about the radius of the moon. The temperature is estimated to be nearly as hot as the sun.
The core is composed mostly of iron (with about 10% sulfur in the outer core), with the outer core in a molten state due to the extreme heat, and the inner core in a solid state due to the extreme pressure. The core is estimated to have a temperature of 3700 C (outer core) to 4300 C (inner core).
