    The Secretary of Energy is a member of the President’s cabinet and is in charge of the Department of Energy.   The Department of Energy makes sure enough electricity is produced for the country’s citizens, that energy infrastructure runs smoothly, and that the public is educated about energy safety.  It also strives for energy efficiency, researching new forms of power such as wind and solar. 

    The current U.S. Secretary of Energy is Steven Chu.
