what does science have to do with modeling?

Models help scientists learn what might happen in the future if we take a certain couse of action. Some models are more complex than others, and more complex models may be a better representation of the world, but may be more difficult to understand. Models can show how a population will grow, how pollutants disperse and break down in the atmosphere, how long it will take bacteria to digest an organic waste, and much more. If you are interested in examining a specific model, this link explains Maximum Sustainable Yield, which is a useful tool for decinding how many fish (or other animals) can be harvested from a population annually without putting the population in danger of extinction.
