Organic means that the use of fertilizers or pesticides are strictly limited and if used they are of animal or vegetable origin. Organic also means that no drugs, hormones, or synthetic chemicals are used. More simply, organic means a more simple, healthful and sustainable lifestyle.
To be certified organic, a farmer must not use pesticides on his crops or hormones for his livestock. It also means producers use sustainable practices and run their business in an eco-friendly environment. Organic also implies the people and animals are treated humanely.
The word “organic” means to be of, relating to or derived from living organisms, or being part of the branch of chemistry dealing with carbon compounds. As it relates to food, organic means without the use of chemical fertilizers, growth stimulants, antibiotics, or pesticides.
