What does a king snake look like?

    The color and banding or spotting pattern will vary depending on the particular species, but in general they are 2 to 4 feet in length, with a red, black, brown, yellow and/or white banding pattern.  They have smooth and glossy scales, which gave rise to its scientific name  meaning lampropeltis [img_assist|nid=157768|title=King Snake|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=640|height=439]shiny skin.

    Eastern kingsnakes, another variety, have little stripes connecting each band, which is why they may be referred to as the chain kingsnake.
