What does it mean when a tree is mummified?

Mummified trees are extremely old trees (some of them up to over 500 years old) that are not yet dead or decayed, due to the preservation qualities of resin produced by the dying tree. So, when a tree is mummified, it means the tree is very old but has not yet decomposed for one reason or another.
