What does Google do to offset their carbon emissions?

Google has an amazing carbon footprint at 1.5m tonnes of carbon annually, which according to The Guardian is on par with the United Nations. However, they claim their data centres consume 50% less than what is the industry average. What’s interesting to me is to hear that the typical Google user creates 1.46kg of Co2 by utilizing their services. Which is roughly equivalent to filling a deep bathtub. Some actions they are doing to decrease or offset their carbon emissions is: buying clean energy, being efficient, investing in renewable energy projects, and reducing their energy usage.
