what does the flamingo do for the environment?

They don’t do anything to improve the environment as we think of it, but they do interact with it.  Flamingos gather up about a foot of mud for their nests to keep their eggs above flood levels.

The flamingo is both predator and prey in the food web.  They feed on algae, insects and some shellfish, beta-carotene in the algae and shrimp gives them their pink color.  Their eggs fall victim to other birds, and mature birds are often hunted by members of the cat family such as the cheetah, lion or leopard.
