When a product is labeled as compostable that means it is designed to break down easily during composting. Another way to say this is “biodegradable.” Fruit and vegetable table scraps are also compostable, as are egg shells, though composting meat or dairy byproducts is not advised as they interfere with the compost’s nutrient balance, and attract both rodents and maggots.
