    The BLM is responsible for the management of federal lands. It manages 256 million surface acres and 700 million sub-surface acres of mineral estate. The BLM helps manage wildfire, mining and petroleum resources, grazing contracts, recreation areas, resource and wildlife conservation, and noxious weed management amount many other things.
