BFR stands for “brominated flame retardant” which is a flame retardant that has compounds with bromine in it. They are often used in electronics, textiles and plastics. Some European countries have banned them out of concern that they could be harmful to human and animal health. The harmful chemical is polybrominated diphenyl ether, or PBDE.
