Balsa trees grow in forest regions of Central and South America. Growing rapidly, they can reach 60-90 feet tall and 12-45 inches in diameter in 6-10 years. Oddly, Balsa trees shrink as they grow older. If left unharvested, Balsa’s outside trunk will grow hard, while the inside rots, creating a very light wood.
