What do you do if a fluorescent light bulb breaks?

Since the compact fluorescent light bulbs commonly being used now for their energy savings do contain small amounts of mercury, they do require special clean up considerations if broken. Follow this link for more detailed instructions: http://www.onebillionbulbs.com/cfl_cleanup

The basic process is to vacate the roof for 15 minutes and open a window to promote air flow. Then clean up the debris with rubber gloves and try to avoid using a vacuum. Seal the debris in a plastic bag and take to your local recycling center if they accept CFL’s, or check local policies.
