Scientists who study glaciers are called, not too surprisingly, glaciologists. Glaciologists study both the formation of glaciers and their effects on the landscape, and often work in remote and dangerous terrain. Often, when working in treacherous areas, glaciologists go looking for glaciers accompanied by trained mountaineers with experience travelling in the specific area of study. The work of glaciologists has been important in increasing our understanding of global warming’s impact on glaciers around the world.
