Supertankers are used mostly to transport oil over water. There have been reports, however, that the same oil tankers that are used to transport oil could be used to suck up the spilled oil in the gulf coast. The Saudi’s did something similar during one of their spills and sucked up 85% of their spill, and BP has many tankers available for use in the Gulf. However, they are reluctant to do so because that would mean less opportunity for them to make money which in my opinion should be the least of their worries at this point.
