NOAA relies heavily on technology to be able to study marine environments without disturbing it. NOAA currently has the LEO-15 underwater observatory, the Aquarius lab, ROV vehicles to collect samples, submersibles, submarines, and is in the process of developing an autonomous undersea vehicle (AUV) . Sondes, CTDs, and submersible samplers are all needed to collect data and samples from the ocean floor. Scientists can control experiments from their land based labs, and use internet, cables, radio, and satellites to deliver real time data and images. An advanced imagery system has been created, using laser lines to scan for habitat assessment.
