The primary use for buckwheat is for food. Now it’s used for human food, mostly in the form of flour. Before our own use, it was livestock food. Buckwheat can be used for smother crop, honey crop, and green manure crop. Human consumption of food mostly comes in the form of flour.
As a fruit seed, buckwheat is a good substitute for those who have wheat and gluten allergies or sensitivities. Buckwheat is related to sorrel and rhubarb and is usually available in stores and restaurants with Japanese soba noodles.
