There are a wide variety of ways to make buildings waste less energy. Some free measures include turning off lights and appliances when they are not in use, using a clothesline instead of a dryer, and making sure important heating and cooling vents are not blocked by furniture. Some measures that cost slightly more include installing low-flow showerheads and faucets, replacing incandescent lightbulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, and insulating water heaters and hot water pipes. More expensive measures include running an energy audit of a building to see where all the energy goes in it, replacing old appliances with more energy-efficient ones, and properly insulating the building.
