What do storm catchers do?

Storm chasers are scientists devoted to better understanding the nature of storms like tornadoes. Storm chasing started in the 1950s as many sought to better understand these storms. In 1972, the University of Oklahoma began the Tornado Intercept Project, it was the start of major storm chasing and study in the US. Storm chasers study the movement, speed, velocity, etc. of storms to understand how to predict and protect against them better. Not all storm chasers are scientists though. Some are reporters or other media chasing the storm for a story, while other are thrill seekers just looking to get close to the action.
