When shrimp are still small and floating around in the water, they eat plankton which are very tiny, drifting organisms. They can be plants, animals, bacteria or archaea. When they have grown larger and are living on the bottom of the sea floor, they eat other small animals – mud shrimp, worms, and small shellfish. They’ll also eat dead crabs or even each other. In general they are not very particular about what they eat, although after they have grown they do tend to stick with other animals over plants.
