Lake trout are predaceous, meaning that they survive by preying on other living animals for food. Lake trout feed on crustaceans, insects, many other species of fish, and even small mammals. Young lake trout (under 8 years), usually consume plankton, insects, freshwater shrimp, and other aquatic invertebrates (Rook, 1999).
