About ten years, for starters. Ducks live an average of about ten years, and maintain a pretty simple diet. Non-medicated pellet mash, chopped hard boiled eggs and vegetable trimmings are all suitable foods.
You’ll also need plenty of clean water (you’ll have to change the water at least once a day) — you’ll want to avoid chorine. One option is a hard plastic kiddie-pool, another is a fresh water pond.
You’ll also need a shelter for your duck — you should avoid a cage, as ducks shouldn’t be caged. The shelter should be large enough for the duck to fully extend and flap its wings. Check out the link before for lots of great info.
