What do gel air fresheners dissolve into? Can they be harmful to animals, plants, or the environment?

It is misleading to believe that air fresheners dissolve into the air … because they don’t. They are indeed harmful for you, but may not be for animals, plants, or the environment. They are only harmful in small living spaces because of the lack of incoming fresh air. Air fresheners, including gel ones, are harmful because they contain phthalates, carcinogens, allergens, and other dangerous substances.
