What do electricity transformer boxes actually do?

The job of the transformer box is to take the high voltage electricity from the power plant and bring it down to a usable form. For safety’s sake your home appliances and outlet use a current of electricity of 110 volts in the U.S. and up to 250 in other parts of the world. But the electricity going along the power lines you see hang above the street goes up to 750,000 volts; imagine sticking your finger in a socket with that much juice!
