    American copper butterflies in their caterpillar state eat the leaves of sheep sorrel and curly dock when they are found in the North.  In the South they eat the leaves of mountain sorrel.  When they are actually butterflies they drink flower nectar from pretty much any flower.

    The larvae of a copper butterfly feeds on clover, sorrel, dock, buckwheat, and smartweeds. As butterfly’s they feed on the nectar of plants.
