As the name implies, atmospheric scientists study the atmosphere, specifically “the atmosphere’s physical characteristics, motions, and processes, and the way in which these factors affect the rest of our environment”. One of the most notable application of atmospheric science is the study of the weather (meteorology), which involves predicting weather, studying past weather, and analyzing current weather. But atmoshperic scientists do not all predict the weather! They use their knowledge for a variety of applications, like “air-pollution control, agriculture, forestry, air and sea transportation, defense, and the study of possible trends in the Earth’s climate, such as global warming, droughts, and ozone depletion.”
