what is different about the different grades of gas at the pumps?

    Different grades of gas have different levels of octane.  The higher the octane level, the lower the level of engine knock occurs.  Engine knock refers to the abnormal combustion associated with using low octane gasoline.  In some engines, higher octane helps to improve acceleration.
