A tram, also known as a streetcar or trolley, is a light vehicle that runs on tracks, sometimes with an overhead cable. Unlike trains, trams usually run on streets next to car traffic.

A metro, also known as a subway, is an electric train that runs underground, though some parts of its route may be aboveground. Both trams and metros are popular forms of public transportation.
