The main difference between inboard and outboard engines is where the engine resides. On an inboard engine, the motor is within the hull of the boat, while an outboard engine runs externally from the hull of the craft. Inboard motors give better stability and are well suited to commercial, offshore, and certain water skiing applications. Outboards are general purpose and offer easy control, maintenance and replacement.
