What is the difference between a mummy bag and a sleeping bag?

A mummy bag is a sleeping bag that has a more contored shape than a regular sleeping bag and a hood to keep the occupant warmer. Mummy bags are narrow at the bottom so your feet stay warmer. These are the bags of choice when camping in cold weather.

A mummy bag is closely contoured to a person’s body and has a hood, two features that help trap heat close to the body.  Mummy bags are designed for use in very cold climates, like the high mountains or the Arctic.
