What is the difference between natural foods and organic foods?

Natural foods means that the food contains no chemically produced ingredients. In that way, all fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, etc. are “natural.” Similarly, a “natural” flavor, even if it has been artificially created in the lab, is still considered natural if it was produced using plant or animal byproducts. An organic food is one that has not been produced using any chemical fertilizers, pesticides, hormones, or other additives. This goes beyond the major ingredients of a food and includes the production methods.

Natural foods means that there are no man-made ingredients in the product. Like an artificial flavor or sweetener would not be in a “natural” product. The product may or may not be organically grown.

Organic means that the flora in the product was grown without use of pesticides, sewage sludge, or chemical fertilizers. To be certified organic a growing field has to have been free of “non-organic” chemical pesticides and fertilizers for three years.
