The common mouse that you find in your house called the House Mouse, Mus musculus. It is small and gray or brown in color. It typically is seen running across the floor or may make a nest for its young in clothing, bedding, or packaging material. This is the same mouse in the country as in the city.

In the city you may seen more rats, Rattus rattus, which are introduced species in the US. They are often seen near shipping areas or places with a lot of trash or materials piled up. These rats can be found in the country as well, but seem to thrive in the city.
