An asteroid is a small celestial body which orbits around the sun. They are typically very small in size, irregularly shaped, and comprised of various materials, like rock or metal. They are thought to have been created in the warmer inner solar system. Comets are made of ice, rock, and organic (carbon-based) compounds. They are believed to have formed in the cold outer solar sytem. Both are believed to be “‘ancient remnants of the earliest years of the formation of our solar system more than four billion years ago.'”
