A data center is a place that contains many computers storing a lot of data. An example would be a bank, where its data center would store account information and other financials. The center would also house “backup power supplies, air conditioning, and security applications.” As for how these data centers could be more green, perhaps it would help if they saved and backed up all the data at night and then shut down the computers. This would save a ton of energy, as there are a lot of computers housed in an individual data center. Furthermore, if they shut down the computers, then there would be no need for air conditioning, as there would be no risk of the computers overheating.
