What is dark matter?

No one really knows. Dark matter is hypothetical matter, and cannot be detected by contemporary methods. But we think it exists because of it’s gravitational effects on matter that we can see and detect (all bodies in the universe exert forces on surrounding bodies). Some scientists think dark matter accounts for most mass in the observable universe.
