Acid rain changes the pH of water, which can be harmful to fish. It can also make soil unihabitable. Acid rain can also harm certain building materials. It can even cause cancer in humans.
In addition, acid rain can completely restructure the food webs of entire ecosystems. Slight changes in the pH of soils can kill of entire microorganisms and plants; by which the health of the ecosystem are affected. The loss of plants means the loss of the lowest and most crucial level of the food chain. The loss of microorganisms also means that organic matter cannot be properly decomposed and replenish the soil with their nutrients.
