What is a cyclic particle accelerator?

A cyclic particle accelerator is a particle accelerator which uses magnets to accelerate particles in a circle. The circular design of this type of particle accelerator allows continuous acceleration of the particles within a smaller space than a linear particle accelerator.

The draw back of this sort of particle accelerator is that it produces radiation known as synchrotron light, some cyclic particle accelerators however are manufactured specifically for the production of this radiation and are known as x-ray machines.
