The US legislation ensuring the rights of the disabled are extensive. As of 2005 they include 10 Acts, mostly dealing with the prevention of discrimination toward disabled people, or in regard to required accessibility to regular facets of society (telephones, voting booths, buildings), but also in rights to fair conditions of institutionalized persons.
