California is home to 9 out of 10 of the most agriculturally productive counties in the U.S. The San Joaquin Valley region, in fact, is one of the most agriculturally productive areas in the world, according to the EPA; unfortunately, the county has a high level of food insecurity. Other top-producing counties, all of which are in California, include Fresno, Monterey, and Imperial.
California’s agricultural market generated over $37 billion in income for the state in 2010. Such success is due to the fact that California’s diverse climate allows a large variety of crops to flourish, from grapes to garlic.
