Using the definition of ‘heat produced by our earth’ (clean-energy-ideas.com), the first use of geothermal energy is believed to have been 10,000 years ago in what is now the USA.  The American Paleo-Indians used geothermal energy at their settlements strategically located by hot springs.  The first use of geothermal energy in recent industry is placed in the late 18th century in Italy.  Steam was used as a form of acid-extraction in the Larderello Fields just outside of Pisa.
