The estimated number of people who have attempted to climb the tallest mountain in the world (Mt Everest) is approximately 4000 — but only 660 of them have been successful.   Some websites list up to 2249 summits and 186 deaths.

The youngest person to climb Everest was US-born 13 year-old Jordan Romero, who made the ascent in May of 2010.  Apa Sherpa a Napalese Sherpa Mountaineer has hiked to the summit 20 times as of May 2010.

According to the link below Nepal, naturally, boasts the largest number of climbers, followed by the US, China, the UK, and Japan.
