Another way to answer this question is by examining the countries with the greatest municipal waste per capita.  The results are different than the total amount municipal waste generated by a country.

Here is the Municipal Waste per capita by country, beginning with the greatest emitter.

1) United States

2) Australia

3) Iceland

4) Norway

5) Switzerland

6) Luxembourg

7) France

8) Denmark

9) Ireland

10) Netherlands

Unfortunately the largest export in the United States is trash to other nations. We send most of our garbage to third world countries, who need the money to survive. They have no other choice.

Really?! That is appalling and really really sad. Do you have any sources on this? I want to learn more.

 # 1 United States: 760 kgs per person per year # 2 Australia: 690 kgs per person per year # 3 Denmark: 660 kgs per person per year # 4 Switzerland: 650 kgs per person per year # 5 Canada: 640 kgs per person per year # 6 Norway: 620 kgs per person per year # 7 Netherlands: 610 kgs per person per year = 8 Austria: 560 kgs per person per year = 8 United Kingdom: 560 kgs per person per year = 8 Ireland: 560 kgs per person per year # 11 Belgium: 550 kgs per person per year # 12 Germany: 540 kgs per person per year # 13 France: 510 kgs per person per year # 14 Italy: 500 kgs per person per year # 15 Finland: 460 kgs per person per year # 16 Sweden: 450 kgs per person per year # 17 Japan: 410 kgs per person per year Total: 9,730 kgs per person per year Weighted average: 572.4 kgs per person per year

Municipal waste is also known as urban/solid waste and is mostly compiled of household and commercial waste.

By almost any measure in any study, the United States tops the list of most trash produced.

United States for sure, if you look at how many people there are in the U.S. and how many of that amount litter? You’d be surprised!

I think you have to think of this question also by how many people are living in the country. For the US, each person produces an average of 4.4 lbs of trash a day! It’s hard to think we throw away so much but the US isnt the biggest trash producer, Mexico produces 30% more than the US. In America, the trash we through away alone could cover Texas 1.5 times. This is why it is so important to recycle. Newspapers, aluminum containers, and certain plastics can be recycled to reuse in a different form, thus saving space in landfills. Another way to help with the waste problem is to reduce the amount of garbage you produce. This can be done by buying less, buying things in smaller packaging, and simply reusing what you have.

I would say China because everything is coming out of there now.

ANSWER : China. New analysis shows that China has surpassed almost all countries in the creation of waste, pollutants, toxins and enviromental hazards.

The United States 364 China 228 India 41 Russia 29 Japan 11 The United Kingdom 10 Germany 10

what is the source of this fact?

The United States produces the most trash with an annual waste of 236 million tons. Fortunately, recycling has gradually increased from 29% in 1990, to over 55% in 2003.

Following the United States is as follows:

2. Russian Federation

3. Japan

4. Germany

5. United Kingdom

6. Mexico

7. France

8. Italy

9. Spain

10. Turkey

united states of america has 25% of the trash in teh world altought only 8% of the population

UNITED STATES

United States tops the list, as was stated before, but heres a few facts that were hard for me to stomach: The US population discards each year 16,000,000,000 diapers, 1,600,000,000 pens, 2,000,000,000 razor blades, 220,000,000 car tires, and enough aluminum to rebuild the US commercial air fleet four times over. Americans throw away 25,000,000,000 Styrofoam coffee cups every year, and each year about 1 billion trees worth of paper is thrown away.

This is just the tip of the iceberg so to speak, see the link below for more.

What do you think:

In terms of food waste, the average North American or European consumer will waste between 95-115 kilograms each year in contrast to 6-11 kilograms a year for individuals within South Asia and Sub-saharan Africa according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.  Stunningly and also not surprisingly rich nations, such as the United States, will waste 222 million tonnes on food which is nearly equal to the food produced in Sub-saharan Africa.  1,000,000,000 U.S. dollars are spent to dispose of such waste each year, indicative of a problem within the food production cycle.

To take this a step further, the United States, Chinese and Russian space and defense programs also create more space trash (debris caught in orbit around the Earth) than any other country. There is currently estimated to be more than 370,000 piece of space junk circling the Earth, mostly consisting of disabled satellites. There are numerous reports available detailing the danger that excessive space debris is beginning to pose for space stations, shuttle flights, etc. It’s rather frightening that we’ve reached a point where our output of garbage is affecting not only our planet, but the solar system as well.

i would defintly say its united states im come on there are alot of people in this country and worst of all look at the economy money is hard price of milk, eggs, cheze, and other things are going up plus people really don’t care about the enviroment like us well i guess were tree hugers and all that but what i know is that the laws in united states aren’t doing anything about it even if they say they are their just sitting on their butts watch tv while eating doughnut and drinking coffee well i can’t say they doughnuts they just sit on their buts and worry whats going to happen in the future well i got some news for them they need to get off their lazy butts and plant a few dozen trees a year or so pick up trash in their neighborhood ride bikes to work and if its raining they can use their car, trucks, and whatever else they have

i would say africa and china

United States is the number 1 most produced grabage in the world. United States produces 2kg x 3 billion people which would equal 6 billion kg of trash per day! Australia follows second place with 1.9kg x (how many people they have in their country), Canada comes in third place with 1.8kg, Finland with 1.7 kg and Iceland with 1.5kg. So far United States has been in the first place for a while now.

I can say africe and china.

The country that produces the most garbage in the world is The United States. Unfortunately, The United States produces about 720 kilograms per year per capita of trash. Australia is the next runner up producing approximately 690 kilograms per year per capita of trash. What should be the answer to this overload of trash plaguing our world and damaging our environment? Recycle, reduce and reuse,  and keep the cycle flowing will help reduce the amount of trash production.
