The International Energy Agency says producing water power costs much less than coal, oil, nuclear, and gas turbine power. The cost of creating a hydroelectricity plant is also among the lowest of the different power types.
One factor that will affect hydroelectricity’s cost is how big the plant is. Running a small plant may cost the same as running a larger, more productive plant; hence the larger plant is a more efficient investment. However, some scientists in India have lately explored new possibilities for small, low-cost plants.
