Coral spawning is the way coral organisms reproduce. Coral release millions of gametes once a year, in precisely synchronized mass-spawning rituals. The evolutionary advantage to such mass releases of gamates is that it maximizes the possibility of the offspring surviving. Coral release so many gametes that there is more gametes than predators could possibly consume. Coral spawning is also one of the most majestic oceanic displays. Millions and millions of golden-orbed polyps float through the sea giving off brilliant colors.
