The Confederation Bridge is the world’s longest bridge, connecting King Edward Island to New Brunswick in Canada. The bridge is roughly 8 miles long, and now serves as the main routes between the two provinces. Built in the late 80’s, the intention was to replace the then current ferry system with a more direct route. The bridge cost over $1 billion to build, and opened for the first time in 1997 to the public.
