Catch sharing is a general term for several strategies among fisheries that allocate an amount of their allowable catch to be caught by individuals, cooperatives, or communities. They are responsible to stop fishing one their declared quota has been reached.

The idea is that this will increase the fishing economy Stateside. Projected increases are over 2 billion dollars in commercial dockside value. This occurs because when large fisheries are underperforming, their slack can often be picked up by smaller, more nimble operations.
