Battery Swapping is the idea that auto manufacturers would standardize their battery packs so that EV owners can pull up to a gas station where a fully charged battery pack is waiting for them. The process could be done in less than a minute. It’s similar to the concept of trading in an empty propane tank for a full one.
Unfortunately, this concept has been stonewalled because all the engineers in the auto industry claim that they can’t make a simple latch that would hold the battery packs in place safely. Seriously, that’s the word straight from the horse’s mouth. My dad asked an industry representative at a meeting of the electric auto association.
However, battery swapping really is a viable option. If you would like to advocate it, I recommend joining the electric auto association and bringing up the topic at a few of their meetings.
