What is a Combined Sewer Overflow?

  1. 0 Votes

A combined sewer collects sanitary sewage and stormwater runoff in the same single pipe system. The overflows are caused by the large differences in flow in dry and wet weather, and these overflows can influence water pollution–the sanitary sewage and stormwater can be emitted directly into a body of water. Combined sewers are not found in newer buildings, but were very common in buildings of the early 20th century.
