The dry valleys of Antarctica is the coldest desert. It does not rain in this region. Snowfall is also limited, at two inches per year. This region was formally discovered in the 1950s. The barrenness of the valleys came as a surprise to explorers, who were used to the snow, ice, and frigid temperatures. This desert features mostly frozen dirt.
