Coal gasification is the process of converting the usable part of coal into a gas by using heat, pressure, and steam, to produce Syngas, which can be used as combustion fuel. Gasification systems are able to achieve much higher efficiencies than combustion systems. It is different from traditional combustion because only a small amount of oxygen is allowed into the gasifier, to limit the amount of coal that is actually burned.
